Ray Lengelé, Belgian artist, painter and illustrator, born in the Belgian Congo, Africa.
Moved to Belgium in the 60's. Graduated from the Academy of Arts in Brussels.
Enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist, winning several awards.
Presently lives and works now in Montreal, Canada, as an independent artist.
° For many years he was exploring different techniques and new mediums like digital software.
° Nowadays, he concentrates his activities on acrylic painting and illustration in their most caricatured sense.
° Took part in many publications, advertisements and packaging all over Europe and North America before beginning painting his own work.
° He makes each painting as an intimate, humorous and instinctive experience, in a never-ending search to encounter the unknown.
° Painting, which had been secondary for a number of years, is now becoming a full-time activity.
° Like some of his favorite painters from the Pop Art movement, he debuted his career in the graphic design business - creating cartoons, ads and packaging.
° Ray is usually characterized as ironic, funny and witty with a very original style.
° Although he is starting out in acrylic painting, he is using his vast experience from many disciplines in graphic art to his advantage. |

° 1972-76: Graduated Art school - St Luc Brussels (Europe) where he majored in pictorial design.
Graduated from the "Center of Decorative Art", Brussels, Belgium
° 1987: Graduated from the Academy of Arts (Woluwe St-Peter), Brussels
1980-1988: Worked as illustrator and designer in packaging for various companies (Advertising - Children's books ...)
° 1988-1995: Worked as an illustrator for magazines such as Spirou, Femme d' Aujourd' hui - Flair - Mode c' est Belge - Park Mail etc... in Brussels.
° 1995 - 2002: Created illustrations for packaging and advertising , eg: Ferrero (Kinder surprise), Kellogg' s, Danone, Esso, Coke, Perrier , Lego, Quick and more...
Built Flash web sites for different companies.
Created the cartoon characters "Pat & Doug" for the magazine "Comme chien et chat" which was a great success.

° 2002-2005: Advertising Illustrations and TV animations for many companies in North America and Europe
° 2005 - 2006: Began to paint his own unique, humorous interpretation of everyday people and things in his very own comic strip style.
° Showcased his work in an exhibition in Montreal during the Just for Laughs festival on July 16 th , 2006.
