| PAINTING AS A SECOND NATURE |
| Ray Lengelé, Belgian artist, painter and illustrator, born in the Belgian Congo, Africa. Moved to Belgium in the 60's. Graduated from the Academy of Arts in Brussels. Enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist, winning several awards. Presently lives and works now in Montreal, Canada, as an independent artist. ° For many years he was exploring different techniques and new mediums like digital software. ° Nowadays, he concentrates his activities on acrylic painting and illustration in their most caricatured sense. ° Took part in many publications, advertisements and packaging all over Europe and North America before beginning painting his own work. ° He makes each painting as an intimate, humorous and instinctive experience, in a never-ending search to encounter the unknown. ° Painting, which had been secondary for a number of years, is now becoming a full-time activity. ° Like some of his favorite painters from the Pop Art movement, he debuted his career in the graphic design business - creating cartoons, ads and packaging. ° Ray is usually characterized as ironic, funny and witty with a very original style. ° Although he is starting out in acrylic painting, he is using his vast experience from many disciplines in graphic art to his advantage. |

| Dans ce monde hyper médiatisé et tout en couleur, l'apparence parait décorative en surface, mais en grattant un peu on y découvre un sombre secret ; le désordre, la décadence et l'entropie en font certainement partie, mais tout cela reste toujours dans un contexte humoristique et ironique cher à l'auteur. La couleurs est un outil très puissant de l'abstraction et de l'imagination. Parfois neutre, parfois "flashante", elle annihile en partie le caractère figuratif des formes initiales. Elle est à la limite du sens. Et Physiquement, une couleur foncée jetée pardessus tout, apporte un côté ténébreux et démontre la dureté et le caractère sombre de certains combats. |
